2019 Year in Review

Jan 3, 2020

In 2019, the Matanky team refocused its community engagement efforts. We restructured our company values to push community above all, hired key players who share in the corporate culture, conducted deals that served both our clients as well as our neighborhoods and expanded our reach through local events.

Now, as we celebrate the New Year, we look back on some of our key moments in the last 365 days. These deals, hires, awards and announcements will continue to shape the way we do business.

A Year in Review: Key Moments

Next Stop: Woodlawn Station
Chicago’s oldest restaurant has a new home. On Thursday March 7, Daley's shuttered its longstanding location on Cottage Grove Avenue and moved a few feet North into the shining Woodlawn Station development. As the neighborhood’s, and arguably the city’s, go-to breakfast spot, there’s no one better to occupy the 5,900 square-foot endcap.

Terri Cox Recognized in Top Tier of Chicago Retail Brokers
Senior Vice President, Director of Brokerage, Terri Cox received the CoStar Power Broker™ recognition for her fifth year. As a Top Retail Leasing Broker™ within the Chicago market, she is among the City's fifteen most notable brokers.

Back to School Fair Brought Community Together
Matanky partnered with the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council to host a back to school fair. The event attracted over 1,200 local residents who received free backpacks, school supplies and entertainment. This is the third year Matanky co-sponsored the event.

Matanky held the fair on the tail-end of a series of community events. Most notably, the group hosted another back to school event at Hazel Crest Center as well a family fair at Chicago Kedzie Plaza.

As an experienced construction veteran, the hiring of Vice President Joe DiFatta established the affiliate, MRG Construction Corp. Since his start a few months ago, DiFatta completed multiple successful projects and secured new clients.

The Senior Brokerage Team Attended ICSC New York Deal Making
Each year, the senior brokerage staff heads out to New York City, to attend the East Coast’s premier real estate event. Though this event is structured similarly to Chicago Deal Making, it offers the brokers a chance to connect with East Coast buyers, brokers and retailers alike. This year, James Matanky, Terri Cox, Scott Levinson and Zach Slagle attended the event.
